Rebecca E. Algie – Seward & Kissel LLP
Each year Her Justice honors a volunteer attorney with this award in memory of John Geiger, who worked on many of our cases for several years. John consistently displayed enthusiasm and great compassion and devotion for our work. He shared this enthusiasm with other attorneys at his firm, as he urged them to become involved with us.
Becca began her involvement with us while she was a summer associate with Seward & Kissel in the summer of 2010. Becca attended our litigated divorce training that summer and worked as part of a team handling a litigated divorce case. Since joining the firm, her involvement with us has never stopped. She has consistently worked on litigated divorces – our hardest cases to place. Throughout these cases, she has been a fierce advocate for her clients, working relentlessly to secure the most favorable terms on their behalf. For her client Katie*, Becca secured primary residential custody of her severely ill daughter and favorable visitation terms for the father that ensured the daughter’s best interests were met while with her father. Becca is currently working on two litigated divorce cases on behalf of our clients.
In addition, Becca serves on our Junior Advisory Board and is a member of our Volunteer Connect Committee, thus serving as a spokeperson for Her Justice.
*Names have been changed to protect client confidentiality.
I volunteer for Her Justice because they provide legal assistance to women at important times in their lives. I am glad I can help my clients navigate a complex legal system so their voices are heard. It has been my privilege to work with my clients and get to know them and their families. – Rebecca E. Algie
